From the estate of noted early American copper collector William Foster Lardner (1873-1934); fresh to the numismatic market for the first time in at least 90 years.
Lardner was a notable coin collector and amateur magician. Portions of his collection, which focused on early copper issues, were sold during his lifetime. There was a sale by the United States Coin Co. in 1914, and then a sale by B. Max Mehl in 1930. The balance of the collection remained with the family until recently, when 18 coins were sold by Jones & Horan Horological Auctions in October 2024. We are honored to sell this, and four other coins from the Lardner collection in this auction.
