Charles Wadsworth grew up in the New York City suburb of Ridgewood, NJ. Between 1937 and 1941 he worked for The American People's School in the Bronx; he took classes from Carl Nelson and attended the Art Students League where he studied under Nicolaides and Kunioshi. Wadsworth was a conscientious objector during WW2 and married in late 1945. A few years later he bought land on Cranberry Island off the coast of Maine, where he would end up building a house and spending summers. Wadsworth is considered the first of the late 20th century Cranberry Isles artists. He exhibited in Boston at the Margaret Brown Gallery and at the Boris Mirski Gallery, and taught painting and printmaking at the Commonwealth School from 1957-1974. In the 1970's, Wadsworth published books of poetry with the Godine Press in Brookline, MA.
Please ask all questions prior to bidding, additional photos and condition reports are available for all lots. Lot descriptions and condition reports represent the informed opinion of Peterborough Auctions, but do not serve as a guarantee. The absence of a condition report does not guarantee excellent condition or imply an object is free of defects. Many old frames are delicate and prone to loss from handling and shipping and we can not guarantee frames to be in the same condition as when photographed. Within a reasonable margin, all weights and measurements should be considered approximate. Please inquire about accepted payment methods on expensive lots or invoice totals.
