Mixed media on card; pencil, ink, watercolor, gouache. Both apparently unsigned (pencil mark OdEB), the larger appears to be an early version or skillful copy of the image featured in an etching on Harper's Weekly cover, December 27th 1862, titled "The Attack on Fredericksburg: The Forlorn Hope Scaling the Hill"; That edition and story featured two additional Fredericksburg plates attributed to Nast, as well as a harrowing account of Norman J. Hall' and the Massachusetts 19th Infantry gallant siege across the river. 10 3/4" x 10". The other on linen backed paper with original loose matting, the grim image showing troops or prisoners pulling a cart with corpses, most likely in the same hand and depicting a different side of the same scene as the other. 4 3/4" x 7 3/4" (sight), on 8 1/2" x 9 1/2" card.
