This is an original ink wash illustration done for the book James W. Riley Poems,published by Grosset and Dunlap in New York in 1943. This illustration on illustration board has the printers annotations and the description of title page number and "2 colors" in the printing. The image measures 11 1/4X9 inches on a board which measures 15X9 7/8 inches. This came to us in a portfolio of illustrations all by Shinn. Many are described as to what book they were used for. Many of these illustrations were hand signed or initialed by the artist. This one has no apparent signature but it is easy to look up where it was used.
