A rare artist's proof by Leonard Baskin, this woodcut was published c. 1963 in a small edition of 50 impressions. Cat: Fern & O'Sullivan-458, pencil signed and inscribed "Artist's Proof". In the era of abstract expressionism, Leonard Baskin’s work was always representational, with a strong classical influence. He drew inspiration from many artists of the past, and in the 1950s and 1960s created series of portraits of the artists he admired including this image of Spanish Baroque artist Diego Velasquez.
