This is a great image of a lone angler fishing in a quiet river pool in rural New York state. Etching, image size 8 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches, published in 1929 in an edition of 50, pencil signed, titled in the lower margin. A richly inked impression on a medium weight wove type paper with ample margins. Schaldach followed his lifelong passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors in his many etchings, aquatints and drypoints. Moving from his home state of Indiana to NYC, he sold fishing tackle during the day and attended the Art Students League during the evening where he learned his craft under the watchful eye of John Sloan and George Bridgman. Schaldach was a member of the Salmagundi Club, Society of American Etchers, and the Independent Society of Printmakers. His work was exhibited at Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1939 New York Worlds Fair, and the American Watercolor Society.
